Rotterdam by Jon Brittain - 3w, 1m

It's New Year in Rotterdam, and Alice has finally plucked up the courage to email her parents and tell them she's gay. But before she can hit send, her girlfriend reveals that he has always identified as a man and now wants to start living as one. Now Alice must face a question she never thought she'd ask ... does this mean she's straight? A bittersweet comedy about gender, sexuality and being a long way from home.

I wasn't really moved by it, nor did I hate it. It would certainly check all the boxes for a LGBTQ show, but I felt it was kind of whiny. Maybe it was because of the age difference of the actors and me. But I am more representative of our core audience base and I don't think they'd like it. And the ending sort of left everything up in the air. I also thought the Dutch language was overused throughout the play. I'd pass on this one.

I agree that I think other LGBTQ options we have would better bridge our older audiences and younger audiences. The dialogue was good, the characters interesting and complex, it talked through personal issues in a very nuanced and honest way. That being said, it has some Dutch and British cultural things that would be hard to relate to for our audiences.

I agree. It does check many of the boxes. It might appeal to some, but I suspect it will not appeal to our core audience group. I doubt it would sell.
