well, it's just a creepy as I remember, maybe more so - a play with some serious set demands, a woman being undressed on stage as well as 2 time periods worth of costumes. It is well written and suspenseful - we would need to be careful that people understood this is not a family friendly mystery but a psychological thriller for adults. I am on the fence about this one - I know we don't want yet another Christie mystery but this is really diving into the opposite end of the mystery pool.
It was moving right along until later in the play when you found what was really happening. Then it got ishy. Let's keep looking for a better mystery.
I appreciate that the ishyness of this might be pushing it to far. I like the piece, but agree that it might not be the right choice at this time. I agree that we should look for a better fit.
I have done this before and like it. Your call.
I, too, am somewhat on the fence about this one, although mostly leaning towards to the "no" camp. I agree with everyone who has referred to the "ishyness" factor. While the "switcho-chango" device is always a crowd pleaser, when done well, this play got so ishy that the switch becomes less rewarding and just plain creepy, and not in a good way. I am wondering if, as frequent audiences of thrillers mysteries, we haven't become too aware of potential twists and go looking for them. This one is so filled with give-aways early on that audiences may not be willingly fooled. The undressing scene would definitely need to be modified. I would say "No, thank you."
I like shows with a twist. I see why others are uncomfortable with it. I would say no for now but would keep it on the blog for possible future years.
After everyone being trapped in their houses in a pandemic for so long, it feels too much like adding trauma to do this play. The twists are fun but I’m not excited about doing a kidnapping and assault play particularly.
