well, I don't think we can achieve all the staging effects as described in the play - having a house literally fall down - I did like that the stage hands "simply" pull on a rope or two - so I think our staging would need to be rather different - overall, I didn't hate it, it's a classic story with name recognition but overwrought as Poe tended to me (a product of his time). I would want our tech committee and an experienced director to read it for possible staging - I neither love it or hate it

I don't know how we could possibly do this in the round. I was in "The Ghost Sonata" at Nimbus where set designer Zach Morgan created a set where the entire facade of the house fell straight down toward the audience every night. The effect was amazing (and scary!), but it was a thrust stage. Also, several of the actors must be able to play the piano. I think there are too many special effects for us to tackle. I say pass.

As a member of the Technical board (and the only member of this committee that has designed a set in the space) - I understand the concern, but I also think that while challenging it is not insurmountable. I saw the production that Jean saw at Nimbus as well and was in awe at the magic when it happened. I think that is what we are missing in a lot of the work that TRP has been doing and we don’t push boundaries. This might be to far, but that is part of what intrigues me about the piece. It is a name and I think Poe would be a draw. I submitted it, and it is still a yes from me.

Poe and the title may be familiar to some. Are they still taught? Doing the set well and having it collapse is imperative. I don't see how this can be done safely in the round with the audience exiting through the "destroyed" arena. No for me.

You can't destroy something that can't be there in the first place. no

Imagination, the magic of theater. So glad that Scott thinks the technical challenges can be met. A big house, it doesn't all have to fall on the floor. Pieces are falling all around. Poe and the title are known. I vote Yes, let's see if there is interest by directors and designers.

Oh dear.... Technical aspects aside, I found this play tedious and very unappealing and, frankly, as an audience member I would be miserable sitting through it, no matter how well produced it is. I think it is a wonderful short story, but not all short stories translate well into stage plays. It's "no" for me.

This is not really my genre of play. I wasn’t a huge fan so it would be no for me.
