sometimes the problem with plays which are using a historical event as a jumping off point is that the exposition and the "education" of the audience takes precedence - so the characters become little more than mouthpieces for a point of view: the prosecutor, the victim, the defendant, etc. And to this mix let's add the aggrieved ex-wife and the gay brother in law. So there is little storytelling - just people standing up and loudly exclaiming their point of view - it didn't seem to me to have much to do with the issue of justice for a Muslic defendant after 9/11 and more to do with if you believe a lying jerk. I was bored - no.

This is very similar to the recent movie "The Mauritanian". Although it was compelling, it was also very disturbing. I agree with Linda Sue that it was more storytelling than acting and lots of monologues. I didn't care for it. No for me.

I agree. Lots of exposition with a little dialogue thrown in here and there. I might work as a radio play, but not for us. No for me.

Guess I'm the odd duck in that I found this a very compelling script. We live in an era where we see again and again people arrested for crimes based on circumstantial evidence. Many people have been convicted based on not only circumstantial evidence but on certain assumptions that are made about the accused based on bias and outright racism. We are seeing again and again, in this age of technology, that many crimes now have explicit video, not to mention DNA evidence, that will ultimately clear an accused individual of a crime. The accused in this play could easily have been convicted based on bias. I was emotionally engaged in the plight of this young man. Just because there is exposition in a script does not mean that it is extraneous. I feel that it is a story worth telling.

I did appreciate many aspects, but am on the "No" side as well. There is an audience for this out there, but it is not at TRP currently. It needs some work with the playwright and is not ready for consideration at this time.

I agree with Linda Sue - the playwright is trying so hard to educate and vindicate our protagonist sometimes they forget to write it as a play. I love the discussion topics of it, and I really wanted to love it because it would foster such valuable community conversation but I think it isn’t ready yet.

Playwright lost me at the prelude. Once the wife and defense lawyer started talking I was reeled in, for a bit. At the end of the script in the Development History section, she writes "still needs more revisions." Indeed, she is trying to cram a lot into this play. Interesting idea, Howard, of turning it into a radio play. Those of you who have an interest in this script might consider letting Tita Anntares know what works and how the play could be improved.

My vote is No.
